Even after having four writers, War (2019) needed tasteless jibes on Hindus (while repeatedly projecting the “sachcha musalman” as the most upright) to make a spy action thriller film.
It remains to be learnt why they leaned on religious commentary to make a film in this genre.
Let’s look at this piece compiled by Gems of Bollywood from the film. Hrithik Roshan has no qualms about dissing the practice of Murti Pooja followed by a section of Hindus, Jains, Buddhists and Christians, and making a song out of a Hindu chant. The film is, however, much kinder to Muslims and their practices.
The same set of writers has different attitudes towards different religions.

We also didn’t miss how Urduwood removed bhakti from the holy chant of “Jai Jai Shiv Shankar” and turned it into a disco number. Shamelessly, they used it to rhyme with ‘mood hai bhayankar’.
While the Mumbai branch of Urduwood, aka Bollywood, goes out of the way to appease their audience across the border, the people on the other side are so openly hateful towards Hindus that they mute the chant when playing the song on social media.
